Mineral Springs, Salt, Saline Generators
- the fastest growing way to treat pool water. It's pretty simple,
but there are rules to follow to make it great.

Question:
I am currently using an "Atlantis" saline purification system. I have
used table salt as a base since I found that other salts have ruined a
furnace, two pool covers and parts of my sand filter system.
I have been adding your "renewal" for a few weeks and
like the product.
Here is my problem - I will be taking about 6000 gals of
water from my 10,000 pool in the near future to do some stair repairs.
I will then have to refill...I wanted to try your BioGuard "Beginnings"
but if I read your material correctly I would need at least 6 to 10
bags? And at $40.00 per bag that would amount to a tidy sum of money.
(My pool is indoors and used year round).
What would you suggest?
Response:
Mineral Springs Beginnings is specifically formulated with the buffers &
scale preventing additives that ordinary salt just doesn't have.
Ordinary salt will contribute to the scale up of another furnace, pool
cover & other pool parts, you don't want that. Mineral Springs
Beginnings won’t.
Six bags of Beginnings for $250.00 or furnace for a couple of thousand
dollars shouldn't be a difficult choice. Purchase 8 bags, add 4 to 5,
and allow circulating for 36 hours continuously & getting a proper
mineral level reading. Then add 1 bag at a time until your level is
reached. As long as the level is at least 2600, you'll be fine. Keep
the other bags for when "larger" amounts of fresh water are added.
Beginnings don’t go bad as long as you store it in a cool, dry place.
They'll keep. You'll save on the freight.
One thing I might recommend, keep the mineral level at about 2700,
especially considering your pool is indoors. I would also recommend
maintaining a temperature of no higher than 84. The higher the
temperature goes the greater problem with scaling in general.
Follow Up Question:
Yes, after reading my email I knew I had already answered my own
question. My pool is a therapy pool and is maintained at a temperature
of between 93 and 97 degrees. I will be placing an order soon.
Follow Up Response:
Just for the heck of it I contacted BioGuard to double check a couple of
questions I had about your pool & its high water temperature. They
concurred with me that you are better off keeping the mineral level at
about 2700 rather than over 3000, to prevent scaling. Be sure to use
the Renewal regularly as it really is useful in keeping the pool well
balanced & preventing scale build up. Keep an eye on the pH (it may
tend to drift high) & maintain it between 7.4 - 7.6.
Question:
I
have a saltwater chlorine generator; can I use regular algaecides for my
mustard algae problem?
Response:
Yes,
you can. I might suggest using
Mineral Springs Renewal on a
regular basis that will eventually bring up an
Optimizer Plus level that
will certainly inhibit any algae growth & make the water even nicer
feeling & keep the water in better balance. You can also add Optimizer
Plus now as you combat the mustard algae. Remember to keep brushing the
affected areas & keep the chlorine level HIGH (over 3.0) until the algae
is under control. Mustard algae can be a real pain, so treat it
aggressively!
