Water Balance in BioGuard®
Soft Swim® or
Biguanide (Baquacil®,
Revacil®,
etc.) pools is just as important as in ANY other pool care chemical treatment
system.
Here are the levels to maintain:
| Water Balance
Property |
Range |
Importance |
| pH |
7.4 - 7.6 |
Basic
measurement of how balanced the pool is. Low pH (under 7.2 corrosion
of pool equipment & surfaces occur, over 7.8 scaling of pool equipment &
surfaces will occur
|
| Total
Alkalinity |
125 - 150 ppm - vinyl
100 - 125 ppm - concrete |
Total
Alkalinity (TA) works as a buffer for the pH helping to keep it better
balanced & preventing "pH bounce". Low TA - under 100 ppm - will
lead to corrosion of pool equipment & surfaces occur, high TA -over 150
ppm - will lead to scaling of pool equipment & surfaces occur. In
addition, we have also noticed higher consumption of "B" when the TA is
under 130 ppm. The reason is not known.
|
| Calcium
Hardness |
200 ppm - vinyl
200 - 250 ppm - concrete |
Calcium
Hardness (CH) is the measurement of dissolved calcium in the water.
Calcium is a necessary mineral that "satisfies" waters natural tendency to
dissolve or consume anything in it - remember the fact that water is the
universal solvent. Similar corrosive & scaling conditions to TA & pH
can occur without proper CH levels. In addition, foaming of the
water is more likely to occur in soft water than in hard water.
